First trip on a Moroccan motorway? No worries. With a little preparation, the experience is simple and pleasant. Here are the essentials to set off with confidence.
Prepare your vehicle
- Check tyres, brakes, fluid levels and fuel;
- Make sure you have a toll payment method;
- Correctly install any Jawaz tag on the windscreen.
Jawaz or manual payment?
If you use the motorway regularly, Jawaz will save you time. For occasional use, manual payment (cash, sometimes card) is enough — carry some change. When in doubt, always keep a backup.
Reading the signs
Blue-background signs show directions, exits and distances. Spot your exit in advance and get into the right lane without sudden manoeuvres. Signs also indicate upcoming service areas.
Mistakes to avoid
- Staying too long in the left lane;
- Underestimating your fuel level;
- Forgetting to top up your Jawaz tag;
- Stopping on the emergency lane unnecessarily;
- Missing your exit and manoeuvring dangerously.
